Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp moong dal
  • 20 small onion
  • 3 tbsp toor dal
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 10 drumstick pieces
  • 1/4 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1/2 tbsp coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tbsp chana dal
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 5 red chilli (adjust according to your taste)
  • 1 tsp fenugreek seeds
  • 1/2 tsp ghee
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • Curry leaves
  • 250 grams tomato
  • 2 + 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tbsp tamarind paste
  • 10 grams jaggery
  • Required salt
  • 1 tbsp peanut oil
  • 1 sliced onion
  • 1 tsp Asafoetida
  • 4 tsp sambar powder
  • Coriander leaves few

Instruction:

  1. Firstly, wash toor dal and moong dal and discard the water
  2. Add both dal, small onions, drumsticks, water, turmeric powder, and sesame oil to a pressure cooker
  3. Pressure cook for 3 whistles. Simmer for 2 minutes and do natural pressure release
  4. Carefully open the cooker and mash the dal
  5. Add 1 cup of hot water. Mix well and keep aside
  6. Add ingredients under “Roast and grind” in a wide pan
  7. saute well till they turn aromatic and turns golden brown
  8. Transfer to a plate and cool completely
  9. Add it to the mixie jar and grind into a fine powder
  10. Add ghee and turn on the stove in medium flame and heat
  11. When ghee turns hot add mustard seed and lets them splutter
  12. Furthermore, add curry leaves and mix well
  13. Add tomatoes and mix well
  14. Cook for 5-7 minutes until tomatoes shrink
  15. Add water and tamarind extract; mix well
  16. Furthermore, add water; mix well and boil for 10 minutes
  17. Add jaggery and salt; mix well and boil for 5 minutes
  18. Furthermore, add dal and water; mix well and boil for 10 minutes
  19. Meanwhile, add oil in a separate pan
  20. When oil is hot add onion and saute till onions turn translucent
  21. Furthermore, add asafoetida and mix well
  22. Turn down to low flame, add sambar powder and mix well
  23. Cook for 15 seconds. Turn off and move aside
  24. After cooking the sambar for 10 minutes add sauteed onion and mix well
  25. Furthermore add water, coriander leaves and bring to boil
  26. Turn off the stove. Our tasty tiffin sambar is ready
